The long wait comes to an end and the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ are launched in events taken place in New York and in London on March 29th. Both the phones are feature packed and the performance looks better than any other comparable phone.
There is great improvement in design, camera, battery and the processing speed of Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus. The phones are available in five different colors – Gold, Silver, Orchid Grey, Midnight Black & Coral Blue.
The South Korean company announced new version of Gear360, updated Gear VR as well along with the most awaited Galaxy S8 and S8+. The phones are having so called “infinity design” that will give you larger space on the screen while the size of both phone is big yet good enough to operate them with a single hand.
Size and Display
As far as the dimensions are concern, Galaxy S8 is 5.8-inch in size and Galaxy S8+ is little bigger to be 6.2-inches. Both the smartphone get super AMOLED quad HD display with 1440 x 2960 pixels and pixel density of 570 ppi and 529 ppi respectively.
The phones are lighter in weight than it predecessor – not much though. The Galaxy S8 weighs 155 grams while Galaxy S8+ is 173 grams.
Coming to the camera, it is one of the feature that most of the buyers pay closer attention too. To make customers happy and re-gain their trust, the company experimented with the camera, I hope people like it.
The phones sport 12 megapixel rear camera with dual-lens and 1.7 aperture and 8 megapixels selfie camera with features like Smart Auto Focus that will detect all the faces while clicking a photograph, Optical Image Stablisation, Face Detection etc.
The phones can record 4k video at 30 frames per second, 1080p HD video at 60 & 30 frames per second and 720p video at 30 fps. Both phones are pretty good for capturing panoramic view of a particular object. The camera is so powerful that you will be able to take clear photographs even at low lights.
Samsung is known for making faster smartphone and it does a good job yet again by making Galaxy S8 and S8+ blazing faster. The Galaxy S8 features octo-core (2.3 Ghz quad +1.7 Ghz quad) 10nm chip processor and the S8+ variant gets octo-core (2.35 Ghz quad +1.9 Ghz quad) 10nm processor. Both are 64-bit processor.
The processor contributes to the processing speed of a smartphone in conjunction with RAM and GPU. With such faster processor, the phones are said to have no time lag even while performing multiple tasks at a time.
Along with such powerful processor and 4GB RAM, Galaxy S8 and S8+ would have no lag as said above.
The phones storage starts at 64 GB which is expandable to 256 GB with microSD card. There are two different models of each, one with 1 SIM card slot and 1 microSD card slot and the other one with 2 SIM card slots and 1 microSD card slot. So make sure which one you want to buy before making actual purchase.
Most of the time the company which uses latest android operating system after Google is Samsung. While Google’s pixel phone already work on Android Nougat the Galaxy S8 and S8+operates on the same operating system as well. Android Naugat is the last version as of today.
This is a major problem with most of the smartphone but the company tried to resolve this problem by improving the battery life. According to Samsung, the phone is having improved battery life that can last upto 20-24 hours if used for calls only. The phone are said to be consuming 20% less power as well. Galaxy S8 features 3,000 mAh power and S8+ gets 3,500 mAh power non-removeable batteries.
Fast and Wireless charging
The problem of battery drainage seems to have a solution now. According to Samsung both the phone have longer battery life yet in case your phone run out of battery, it can be charged quickly with a wire or without a wire. This wireless charging technology made our life easier and hassle free as you need not to sit closer to power socket to charge your phone.
IP68 water resistant
The Galaxy S8 and S8+ both are IP 68 water resistant, meaning you can save your phone from water for 30 minute if left under 1.5 meter water. This feature can be a savior in case you are caught in the rain and can’t wait till rain stops.
Unlock with either of three methods – Iris Scanner, Fingerprints or Facial Recognition
The security of your data kept in your phone is utmost important and the company have taken it pretty seriously. There are three different ways to unlock your Galaxy S8 phone – IRIS scan, Facial recognition or fingerprints. You can unlock your phone by raising it up and bringing infront of your eyes. The retina of each individual is completely different and its practically not possible to clone it.
The other method you can use to unlock your phone is by letting phone recognise your face. It can be unlocked by placing a finger on the finger print scanner placed at the back as well. However, the traditional ways of unlocking your phone by entering password or making a pattern is also an option in you don’t want to use any of above three methods.
No HOME button
It was much rumored and have turned out to be true. Both the variants lack Home button but that doesn’t mean you can’t use function that Home button was intended to, its just physical button is not present. However the phones are pressure sensitive to give feel like pressing physical home button. The home button is in-built on the display and performs all those tasks that physical home button used to do.
Galaxy S8 and S8+ Price
The phones are available to order from March 30, 2017 in South Korea and will be made available worldwide in coming months. The 64 GB Galaxy S8 model can be purchased at a price of $720 from AT&T without contract in the United States however for Galaxy S8+ model, the customers will have to pay $120 extra. It can be purchased at $840 without contract in the United States.
The price of both the phones will vary based on different variants and the country.
