Xiaomi notebook to be available by April 2016
A Xiaomi laptop has been rumored for months now. Recently, a report, citing supply chain maker’s claim, says that the Chinese tech company is designing a laptop to be launched next year.
The specs of the upcoming Xiaomi laptop, being dubbed the “Mi laptop” and “Xiaomi notebook,” is said to be aiming to match that of Apple’s MacBook. It will reportedly feature a 15.6-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and an LED panel. Under the hood, a fourth-generation Intel Core i7 processor backed by 8 GB of RAM configuration is being rumored to be in preparation.

However, the Xiaomi notebook will not be running on Windows 10, or any other Windows operating system for that matter, but on an open-source Linux distribution. GSM Arena shares that the decision was made to keep costs of production at a minimum.
Machines with such specs and promise are usually sold at a $1,000 price tag,but Xiaomi has been known to drop prices at an extreme. For the upcoming Macbook-like Xiaomi laptop, the price is expected to be around $466 or 2,999 Yuan.

Xiaomi has made a record of keeping promises as such, so users can expect the best features for the lowest price on the upcoming Xiaomi laptop. However, there are rumors that the price mentioned may apply to a smaller variation (12.5 or 13.3 inches) that might also be launched by April 2016.
It’s a safe move, allowing Xiaomi to test out its maiden laptop offering (mock-up image above) within the highly competitive PC market before expanding its range. The segment has seen a decline over the years with the rise of smartphones. The 12.5-inch gadget is set to be manufactured by Inventec at its Shanghai factory and will be ready for shipping by April next year.
The same Chinese source says a 15.6-inch model could also be in development with the following specifications:
- OS: Linux
- Processor: Intel, Core i7 Haswell
- RAM: 8 GB RAM
- Graphics: Nvidia, GeForce GTX 760M with 2 GB VRAM
- Display: 15.6-inch, Full HD, 1920 x 1080 resolution display, LED backlight
- Price: Under 3000 Yuan
By waiving the latest technology from Intel and Nvidia,Xiaomi can keep costs as low as possible. The notebook is expected to sell for as low as 430 Euros if the rumors prove to be true.
